The Society

The Scientific Society for Social Cohesion and Development (EPEKSA) is a politically independent center for scientific research and reflection (Think Tank) operating as a civil, non-profit organization. The purpose of the Society is to promote the principles of social justice, solidarity, and equality through scientific research, socially-oriented consultancy, and public dialogue.

EPEKSA’s fields of research and intervention focus on social policy and social development, social inequalities and poverty, public employment policies, social inclusion, health-care and social security, policies for the family, children, and gender, social and sustainable development, the environment, education and training, immigration, corporate social responsibility, youth, culture, and sustainable cities.

The Society actively supports the promotion of the social economy and social entrepreneurship, as well as the strengthening of local social development as privileged fields for the inclusion and activation of vulnerable groups in social and economic development and for combating social exclusion.

Society’s goals are promoted through a wide range of activities, as demonstrated by its eight-year history. This experience is reflected in actions and projects, initiatives, and interventions at local, national, and transnational levels. The positive evaluation and recognition of our projects and actions by collaborating entities and partners attest to the Society’s successful track record.

Our actions to date include, among others:

• The publication of the scientific journal “Social Cohesion and Development”
• The conduct of scientific research and studies
• The development and design of socially-oriented policies and Operational Plans for Public Authorities, Local Government Organizations (LGOs), NGOs, and Trade Unions
• The undertaking and implementation of European and national programs
• Information and awareness-raising actions through conferences, workshops, public events, etc.
• Education and training programs
• Conducting evaluations
• Providing expertise and consultancy to OTAs
• The design, consultancy, and promotion of social entrepreneurship
• Transnational cooperation with international entities and organizations
• The publication of books, brochures, guides, and other materials
