The workshops took place at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, on the subject matter of Cultural Mediation: Methodologies and Training Paths. The implementation of the training was carried out by experts of Agora Cooperativa Sociale, working on the field of cultural mediation, in collaboration with Epeksa that provided the necessary facilities and equipment. There was attendance and participation by trainees from Spain (Red Incola), Estonia (Eluliin) and Greece (Scientific Society for Social Cohesion and Development – EPEKSA).

During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to exchange views and learn from examples of good practice. A variety of issues was analyzed regarding the cultural shock, the cultural iceberg, the need for intercultural mediation and the role and figure of the mediator. Particular emphasis was placed on the specific needs of the social groups with a different cultural background than the dominant one. Through active teaching and learning techniques, open discussions and brainstorming, trainees manage to understand the plurality of perspectives on giving matters and deal with actual everyday dilemmas of a cultural mediator. The knowledge and experiences developed are essential for consolidating the role of the cultural mediator, with the aim of supporting refugees and migrants and ensuring real inclusive opportunities. In order for the participants to be fully aware of the importance of cultural mediation, a visit at Epeksa´s structures in Glyfada took place.

The project is co-founded by the European Union.

KLEOSPress ReleaseCultural Mediation – Athens September 2023 From 18th to 21st of September, a four-day training seminar was organized by the Scientific Society for Social Cohesion and Development in Athens.
