On Monday, January 13, 2025, the first series of local events on human trafficking took place at Panteion University, with great success and a large participation. The actions were implemented within the framework of the AMIF- Kleos Strengthening skills and networks- Facing the new THB scenario program, under the responsibility of the Scientific Society for Social Cohesion and Development. Over 50 stakeholders attended the event, including students, social scientists, sociologists, psychologists, social workers, and members of security forces, among others.
The event was introduced by Mr. Charalampos Oikonomou, Professor at Panteion University, who analyzed the relationship between social policy and human trafficking in the contemporary context of globalization. Afterwards, Dr. Stavros Pantazopoulos, referred to the social and institutional conditions that create the environment of human trafficking and the necessary conditions for combating the phenomenon. The sociologist Ms. Eftychia Zarachoviti presented the findings of the two researches conducted within the framework of the Scientific Society for Social Cohesion and Development, on human trafficking in Greece and other European countries, the protection of unaccompanied minors and the role of the Internet in the escalation of the phenomenon, additionally with the risks it entails. Lastly, Ms. Marina Donopoulou, President of the NGO A21, spoke about the ongoing actions of the organization, which provides support to victims of trafficking, and elaborated on the psychological impact faced by these victims, the reasons for their victimization, and the methods used for their recruitment.
After the presentations, a lively discussion followed, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions about the evolution of the phenomenon of human trafficking and propose policies to combat it.
